Wacom, the leading manufacturer of pen tablets, interactive pen displays and intuitive interface devices, today announces the DTU-1931A -- a high-resolution 19-inch LCD equipped with a digital pen enabling users to write, annotate and navigate directly with the pen on the screen. Aimed at the education and healthcare markets as well as companies requiring audio visual equipment for meetings, presentations and video conferencing, the DTU-1931A is an innovative tool, ideal for providing dynamic and interactive presentations or lectures. The interactive pen display also provides an accurate tool to control and operate complex user interfaces.

With a high quality 19-inch screen size offering SXGA resolution of 1280 x 1024, the DTU-1931A is an extension to Wacom's successful family of pen displays that includes its Cintiq displays used by graphics professionals worldwide to create art. Created to be a presentation and user-interface device, the DTU-1931A is built for controlling presentations, lectures, and precision control of software interfaces for control systems, electronic medical records, and other system software.

The DTU-1931A provides advanced video capabilities with the inclusion of DVI-I input and DVI-I output. This means that either analog or digital video sources can be used. It now also supports analogue or digital output to projectors and displays, so there is no need for an additional DVI-splitter. This plug-and-play feature makes it even simpler to use.

Video scaler is a new feature that supports wide-format input as well as native aspect ratio. Set to standard, the DTU-1931A has a 4:3 aspect ratio, but when connected to a widescreen laptop or other hardware, it automatically changes to 16:10.

More dynamic presentations

The DTU-1931A enables intuitive data input to be carried out directly on the screen using a digital pen, providing perfect hand-eye co-ordination and increased accuracy. This makes it ideally suited for presentations. In combination with a video projector, the interactive pen display can be used in the same way as a traditional overhead projector, but with all the advantages of working digitally. During a presentation or lecture, the user can add handwritten notes, annotations and diagrams, which can be saved and handed out afterwards. This results in lively interaction between the presenter and the audience. Collaborative sessions become more effective as the presentation can be updated in real time on the screen, while the presenter is still facing the audience.

Increased interactivity for use in education

The DTU-1931A also offers universities, schools and other educational institutions new possibilities for teaching. Handwritten notes, sketches, drawings and mind maps can be created spontaneously during a lecture or lesson. Teaching staff can add ideas and suggestions from students directly to the slides, increasing interactivity, creativity and discussion.

High precision for process management

Working directly on the screen with the pen enables an increased degree of control and accuracy. The DTU-1931A is therefore ideal for process management tasks where an array of controls and settings can be quickly and intuitively operated. A digital sound mixer can be operated in a similar way to its real world counterpart, enabling the engineer to adjust virtual controls on the screen.

Wacom's patented pen technology provides a natural tool for freehand writing, annotating and navigating directly with the pen on the screen. The ergonomically designed cordless and battery-free pen provides 512 pressure levels and has a programmable double side-switch. The technology of the DTU-1931A results in a minimised 'jitter' of the pen, making cursor navigation faster and more accurate.
