Answer:
========== For XP (similar for Win2000)===========
1. Completely uninstall the old tablet driver:
- 1-1: To ensure the preference file also be deleted, before using the below uninstall tool wacuinst.exe, please use the Tablet Preference File Utility (in All Programs – Pen Tablet, or Wacom Tablet) to Remove All Preference Files.
- 1-2: Use the tablet driver uninstall tool -- wacuinst.exe:
(You will see the below error message upon the completion, but just ignore it and reboot you machine. The uninstaller will search for all files, but some multi-language driver related files may not exist in your system.
- 1-3*: (You may omit this step. But if the problem still persists after you went through the whole procedure, you should do the whole procedure again and include this step.)
Open the Device Manager (in Start - Control Panel – System – Hardware – Device Manager), and delete all tablet related items, refer to this FAQ. - 1-4: Detach the tablet, restart the computer (please be sure to do this as it can make a difference when installing the updated driver version).
=="The error occurred in deletion processing of some files or registry. Please perform this program once again or check a history, and delete manually"
2. Install the latest tablet driver.
- 2-1* (You may omit this step. But if you did the above 1-3, you will need to do this step also.)
After Windows XP is fully loaded, open the Device Manager, watch it while plug-in the tablet. Wait sufficient time for the tablet be recognized by Windows and the HID (USB Human Interface Device) driver from Microsoft be installed automatically. Only when this is done, the pen can move the cursor like a general mouse (without Wacom tablet driver. Install Wacom tablet driver later will further make all the advanced tablet function available). - 2-2: Connect the tablet to a USB port directly on motherboard (this is required for locating tablet driver installation problem). (After you installed the tablet driver on a motherboard USB port successfully, you may further try to use a USB hub, etc.) (Also may try different USB port on motherboard, for some PC this will make difference). Temporarily disable your antivirus software and firewall software (this is recommended. Some antivirus software will prevent tablet driver from being installed correctly, so temporarily disable it is absolutely necessary). Don't put pen or other devices like mouse, lens cursor on the tablet surface when installing the tablet driver.
- 2-3: To download the proper driver for your tablet, please visit Driver Download page.
- 2-4** (You may omit this step. But if the problem still persists after you went through the whole procedure even with the ones marked with a *, you should do the whole procedure again and include also this step.)
To simplify the system environment and avoid the hardware / software conflict, detach all other PC peripherals. Uninstall the third party mouse driver if there is one.Type msconfig in Run, in System Configuration Utility pop-up, select General tab, select Diagnostic Startup – load basic device and services only, click OK. After restart the PC completely, plug-in the tablet.
- 2-5*** (You may omit this step. But if the problem still persists after you went through the whole procedure even with the ones marked with * and **, you should do the whole procedure again and include this step.)
Do an error checking for drive C: On Explorer right click drive C, select Properties - Tools – Error-checking (check disk options: Automatically fix file system errors, and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors).
- 2-6: Double click the downloaded driver file to start the installation (if it won't go, should right click and select the Run as administrator). Wait sufficient time for the driver to be installed.
- 2-7: Restart the computer with tablet attached (this is required only for the first restart immediately after the driver installation. After this you may attach or detach tablet at any time).
(If the tablet can’t work properly after the driver installation, a tablet hardware problem is also possible. To confirm, you may try to install the tablet in another Windows PC. If the tablet worked ok there, then the tablet hardware should be of no problem.)
-----
For concurrent use of a professional Wacom tablet and consumer tablet, you need to install professional driver (version 6.05 or later) and consumer driver (version 5.05 or later) separately. These two drivers can be added or removed independently of each other.
