Tips & Tricks Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Chapter2 Painting a Photograph

Photoshop 7.0 allows you to make your own brush, and even add texture as well, enabling an infinite number of unique brushes and touches.
Use a photograph as a texture, and you can easily make a painting with an illustration touch.

1. Choose a photograph (a simple one will make it easy)
If you wish to prepare a different photo, be sure you fill in the background with White. (If the object is white, set the background Black) In order to work this easily, a solid color background is recommended.

RETURN

2. Register the photograph as a pattern.

Select the image (Ctrl+A), go to the Edit menu and select Define Pattern...

Input a name for the pattern, and click OK .

4. How to paint

Add a new layer to the photograph, and bring it to the front.
Fill in this layer White, and set the paint color as you wish. (*red for this one)

(1)  Check in the Invert box, and paint over the tomato 2 or 3 times while keeping the pen-pressure low.

(2)  To make the image more like an illustration, paint over with a more yellowish color.

(3)  Color the stem of the tomato with a thinner brush.
(4)  Since the shadow was deleted in the beginning, check out the Invert box and add a shadow by painting over 2 or 3 times again.

(5) For the detailed parts, zoom-in, and use a thin and sharp brush for the final touch-ups.

RETURN

5. Add your signature

Choose a thin brush, and activate Smoothing in the brush palette.

This is one of the most impressive new features of Photoshop 7.0. Without this, natural signnatures are impossible!!

Add in your signature, and you' re DONE !!
